Cross. For the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to visit many Eastern European and some Asian countries as a volunteer election observer for OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe).

Since 2002, I have worked as long-term observer, which means staying in the country up to two months. The longer stays allow one to feel the tempo of an area and to experience the culture and hospitality. In addition, my international colleagues, interpreters and drivers provide their unique viewpoints. Part of our responsibility is to familiarize ourselves with our designated region. This requires considerable driving on back roads and dirt paths, all of which afford us the opportunity to see the countryside and interact with the locals.

Three years ago, I decided to paint some of the memories of my experiences in Albania in 2007. The following year I was sent to Serbia and in 2009, Moldova. Thus, my current exhibition represents my remembrances of the three countries.

The purpose of the paintings is to show respect and appreciation for the people of these countries.

Ning House, renowned Sacramento Delta painter, has been my teacher and mentor for the past several years, and I am privileged to continue under his guidance.
